SOLASOLV-UK™ – THE MASTERS’ CHOICE
UP TO 81% SAVINGS IN POWER
With associated SAVINGS IN GHG EMISSIONS
Plus the supplementary COST SAVING benefits

WITH SOLASOLV-UK™ SCREENS IN USE AT ANY WINDOW LOCATION, SIGNIFICANT SAVINGS ARE LIKELY, READ ON..…

Whenever you cool or heat an environment using SOLASOLV-UK™ screens, you will be saving money AND improving the location’s carbon footprint by reducing GreenHouse Gas (GHG) emissions.

How much you save depends on a wide number of variables including 6 main ones-:
1.    Size of the control room, office, wheelhouse or other type of area being protected
2.    Route sailed (for vessels at sea)
3.    Outside air temperature / weather conditions
4.    Inside air temperature
5.    Unit cost of power
6.    The SOLASOLV-UK™ shade film selected; Silver & Gold are the most effective power savers

The research was carried out to quantify the actual power savings that can be expected when SOLASOLV-UK™ screens are in use on vessels at sea but is equally relative to static locations with panoramic windows such as VTS towers, other types of control rooms and offices.  The savings in energy will result in reductions in GHG emissions as well as the financial rewards of savings in costs.  Cost savings would offset the initial financial outlay of having the SOLASOLV-UK™ screens installed.

To quantify the cost savings in terms of dollars for a particular customer or vessel is impossible, unless the exact trading routes, weather conditions, time of day etc are all precisely known.  However, from the report’s findings we can quote hypothetical percentage figures on which customers can base their own conclusions and opinions.

When considering choice of SOLASOLV-UK™ shade film type, if the aesthetics of the film colour are not important then the 2 main factors are glare reduction and heat rejection.  The most effective films at reducing glare are Gold and Silver.

When it comes to heat rejection there can be a huge difference between the film colours.  Data from the report confirms this.  For example – A Ferry with a Large Wheelhouse, from Cadiz to Tenerife (Atlantic Ocean Region) with SOLASOLV-UK™ Bronze shade film screens in use will save 55% of power.  If the screens were Silver shade film the power saving would be 73%, or 1.3 times more power saved.  In all of the tests Silver film was the Power-Saving Leader.

SOLASOLV-UK™ products were originally designed to solve solar problems created by the sun shining through a vessel’s navigation bridge windows and over the last 30 years, since 1988 we have manufactured and supplied over 159,000 screens to around 16,500 vessels and other locations world-wide, in 100 countries on all seven continents.  Our Brand leading Type Approved products are in effective use on every type of vessel that has a wheelhouse or navigation bridge, including the naval vessels of over 15 nations.

Being able to reject up to 93% of glare, 87% of heat and 99% of uv light from the sun, our roller sunscreens not only ensure personnel work in a much improved and safer environment but they contribute towards enhancing your carbon footprint via reduced air conditioning power consumption with an associated saving in running costs.  They are equally effective at any type of window, especially where people work and need to see out of a window as part of their procedures, for example Vessel Traffic Services is an important operation that can be stressful and we have supplied Port Authorities world wide to assist with operators’ health and safety.

Solar Solve UK has won over 20 awards for exports and business excellence based on customer care.

Below is a random selection of potential savings in air conditioning power for various types of vessel on hypothetical routes and with SOLASOLV-UK™ screens in use at the navigation bridge windows, with suggested power savings.

A Ferry with a Large Wheelhouse, en-route from Hull to Amsterdam (North Sea Region) with SOLASOLV-UK™ Silver shade film screens in use = 81% power saving.

A Ferry with a Small Wheelhouse, en-route from Napoli to Cagliari (Mediterranean Sea Region) with SOLASOLV-UK™ Grey shade film screens in use = 34% power saving.

A Cargo vessel with a Medium Wheelhouse, en-route from Bellmullet to St. Johns (Atlantic Ocean Region) with SOLASOLV-UK™ Gold shade film screens in use = 51% power saving.

A Ferry with a Large Wheelhouse, en-route from Cadiz to Tenerife (Atlantic Ocean Region) with SOLASOLV-UK™ Silver shade film screens in use = 73% power saving.

 BE GREEN IN 2018 CAMPAIGN

Everyone is well aware of the emphasis that is being put on trying to create a better world for future generations by acting now to reduce carbon gas emissions entering the atmosphere.  We are all doing as much as we can to help save the world from self-destruction.

IT’S ALL GOOD GREEN NEWS

You may be interested to know about this year’s international HydroContest competition, organised by the Hydros Foundation.  It’s an international competition that takes place annually in Saint Tropez, France and is designed to promote cooperation in the advancement of technology to reduce emissions caused by shipping.

Southampton Hydro Team, a group of students from the Universities of Southampton and Southampton Solent will be participating in the HydroContest and they will design, build and race two innovative composite-made energy efficient boats (one with carbon fibre foils)  and bring never-before-seen technology to this year’s competition.

Solar Solve Marine are an official team sponsor and we are very proud to support a team of young engineering students that are committed with the environment and ocean protection.

Naturally we wish them every success in the races in September and also with achieving their main objective of making some ground breaking discoveries that will advance the technology to reduce emissions caused by shipping.

For information about the Southampton Hydro Team visit www.southamptonhydroteam.co.uk
Or email: partners@southamptonhydroteam.co.uk

The IMO – International Maritime Organisation has put in place a strategy and set a target to reduce shipping’s greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2050.

The OECD – Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development International Transport Forum issued a report in March 2018, which found that the shipping industry could be 95% decarbonised by 2035.

Whichever is right, we know for sure that much more research will need to be carried out in the intervening years and the work the Southampton students are doing is bound to help.  Good Luck to them.

AN ODE TO THE CARING GREEN SHIPOWNER

Fast Cats, Freighters, Oil Rigs or Fighters
Tankers, Tugs, Containers or Lighters
Supply Boats, Patrol Boats, Fishers or Carriers
Cruise Ships or Ferries; SOLASOLV has no barriers

Whatever the vessel, wherever it plies
It’s goanna get troubles that come from the skies
The problems created by sunshine or ice
Are ones that can easily be solved in a trice

Crew need protection from solar glare and heat
SOLASAFE solves the problem and it’s really neat
When used on the bridge, crew will be content
The screens will improve their environment

Not only for safety or the savings in cash
There’s another reason why you should give them a bash
For the world at large is now very keen
That caring ship owners are seen to be green
