The 22nd March saw South Shields based Solar Solve Marine’s second Investors In People Post Recognition Review since achieving the Standard in 2005.

Investors In People is the national Standard for best practice in people management and internationally recognised and respected. It is an energising business tool that stimulates and challenges organisations to make the best of their people and recognise their contribution, providing the opportunity for performance improvement through effective development to ensure that the skills and talents within an organisation are maximised.

Throughout the day the IIP Assessor was very impressed with what he saw and heard from Solar Solve’s employees and directors and included in his report some comments made by staff members such as; “You can’t not be trained working here” and “Everyone is multi-skilled and you get to do what you are interested in as well.” He also identified as a main area of the business’s strength; ‘Clear business focus and business plan with emphasis on customer service that is consistently understood by everyone.’

In his ‘Conclusion’ the Assessor mentioned unequivocal confirmation that the company continues to meet the IIP Standard; the level of support for all employees’ learning and development being exemplary. In his opinion, had the organisation opted to go higher it could have achieved a level of IIP recognition significantly beyond the core Standard.

Solar Solve Marine has been supplying their world famous SOLASOLV brand of products to commercial and military vessels worldwide since 1987 and counts the governments of more than 20 nations amongst its customers. SOLASAFE roller screens for ship’s wheelhouse windows reject glare, heat and uv light; creating a safer and more comfortable working environment, savings in running costs and reduced carbon gas emissions.

John Lightfoot MBE, company chairman commented, “My wife Lilian, who is also a director and Company Secretary, and I were absolutely delighted when we heard the good news. We know we employ the very best people but it is always good to have someone from outside the organisation confirm it because we all work very hard to remain at the top of our industry. In fact we were so pleased that we bought everyone an extra treat.”
